As part of its follow-up to record cases of poisoning among a number of workers in car repair shops, the Ministry of Public Health stressed the necessity of hospitalization and intensive care for all workers and workshop owners, especially those working in car mechanics, paints, and industries that use fuel, oils, and solvents, the need to pay attention to the following: Completely refrain from using gasoline or industrial solvents to clean hands or any part of the body. * Wear gloves and appropriate protection when dealing with chemicals and solvents. * Ensure good ventilation in workplaces and avoid inhaling fumes. * Keep chemicals in their original, clearly labeled containers, and do not transfer them to water or beverage containers or any containers not intended for them. * Use soap and water or specialized, safe cleaning products to remove oils and grease from the skin. * Seek medical attention immediately when symptoms such as bluish skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, severe headache, general weakness, or disturbance of consciousness appear after exposure to any chemical substance, including benzene. Finally, the Ministry warns that these substances can enter the body through inhalation or skin contact, and may lead to serious poisoning cases even without being swallowed.
